Coinbase Launches ‘Based Agent’, Making AI in Crypto as Easy as Ever Leading cryptocurrency exchange, Coinbase, has announced its latest brainchild in the form of ‘Based Agent’, a feature focused on making the integration of AI-powered agents easy for crypto enthusiasts. The new offering will enable users to create an AI-powered agent with a crypto wallet within three minutes. According to Coinbase developer Lincoln Murr, its intuitive design can simplify blockchain tasks from trading and staking to the interaction of smart contracts.
Smoothening AI Agent Creation
Built on the Coinbase SDK and in collaboration with OpenAI and Replit, ‘Based Agent’ seeks to make building an AI bot more seamless. Just API keys from Coinbase and OpenAI, coupled with the accessibility of the template from Replit, and one will have their AI agent. Once turned on, the AI agent performs many functions independently, including management of trades, swaps execution, and even base name registration.
Murr emphasized that the ‘Based Agent’ template is the perfect way for crypto users to connect with their advanced blockchain functionality. “What we’re trying to do here is make it as easy as possible to start building up your own AI agent,” he said in a video posted on X on October 26.
CEO of Coinbase Voices Support for AI Agents
This launch comes hot off the heels of comments from Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, who has publicly advocated for the use of AI agents in crypto. In fact, just last week, Armstrong gave the AI chatbot Truth Terminal a featured wallet on X, publicly advocating for autonomous crypto transactions by AI agents. In August, he also oversaw the first AI-managed crypto transaction, pushing along automation in blockchain processes.
The Rise of Autonomous AI Transactions
According to a number of industry experts, including founder James Ross of Mode Network, in the next few months AI is going to be huge in blockchain. In his projection, over 80% of blockchain transactions will be done by AI agents before the middle of 2025, with a very different-looking DeFi space.
With ‘Based Agent,’ Coinbase is also among the growing list of innovators pushing the AI capabilities in crypto. As this technology continues to develop, it may transform blockchain interactions and make more accessible financial automation possible.
