OKX Denies Receiving Freeze Request After Tron’s X Account Hacked

A public feud has erupted between cryptocurrency exchange OKX and Tron founder Justin Sun. The conflict comes after a recent hacking of Tron DAO’s official X (previously Twitter) account, during which hackers uploaded a malicious contract, sent deceptive DMs, and engaged with unfamiliar accounts.

Sun turned to social media to claim that OKX had failed to act on a “freeze notice” by a supposed law enforcement agency. He explained that the notice was issued in an attempt to prevent the stolen funds from being transferred and that OKX had failed to comply.

Star Xu: “We Can’t Freeze Funds on Your Word”

OKX’s founder and CEO Star Xu replied directly to Sun’s public accusation. Xu declared on X that OKX never had an official request from the law enforcement departments and couldn’t act upon Sun’s messages exclusively.

“OKX also has consumer protection policy under law,” Xu explained. “We can’t freeze a customer’s funds due to your own X post or verbal communication. I believe you should be aware of it as the CEO of HTX.”

Xu clarified that an asset freeze should follow due legal process, such as obtainable documents from a known enforcement authority.

No Trace of Notice in Any Communication Channel

Xu also confirmed that OKX’s Law Enforcement cooperation team had searched their mail, including the spam box, for any details regarding the case.

“Our LE cooperation team just scanned the mail, including the spam box; we have no request related to this case,” Xu said.

Despite Sun’s claims that he did not possess any other way to contact OKX’s compliance department, the firm insisted that no communication was received through official or unofficial means.

Tron DAO Account Hacked Amid Increasing Trend

Tron DAO reported its X account was hacked on May 3. The attacker used the exploit to post malicious contract addresses and interact with users to spread further misinformation.

Sun insisted he was attempting to act in the community’s interest and emphasized that the money stolen was not his. However, the lack of official word has created a public feud between the two crypto titans.

Web3 Security Under Siege

The Tron DAO hack is the most recent in a series of high-profile Web3-associated social media hacks. Recent months:

  • March 15: Founder Yu Hu’s X accounts and KAITO AI were hacked to manipulate KAITO token markets.
  • February 26: Pump.fun’s X account was used to pump a phishing token called “PUMP.”
  • April 15: UK MP Lucy Powell’s X account was hijacked to push a crypto scam.

Xu has dared Sun to post evidence of the reported freeze request. The incident reflects ongoing concerns about account safety and the limitations of ad-hoc communication in response to crypto-related cyber attacks.
