Dubai Enables Crypto Payments for Public Services

Dubai will become the world’s first government to enable total cryptocurrency payments for public services, after a historic agreement between the Department of Finance (DOF) and Crypto.com.

Announced during the Dubai FinTech Summit on May 12, the partnership will establish a secure digital channel where individuals and businesses can use crypto wallets to pay government fees. Payments will be instantly converted into Emirati dirhams and deposited into DOF accounts.

According to Crypto.com, this is a significant advancement in Dubai’s Cashless Strategy, aimed at enhancing convenience and financial innovation.

Supporting Dubai’s Cashless Strategy

This crypto integration aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to become a global fintech hub. The Cashless Strategy seeks to digitize over 90% of financial transactions in both the public and private sectors by 2026.

Dubai officials expect blockchain-based payment systems to contribute at least AED 8 billion annually to the local economy through improved efficiency and fintech growth.

Beyond Pilots: A Fully Integrated Crypto Solution

Unlike limited pilot projects seen in other jurisdictions, Dubai’s initiative fully embeds crypto payments into its government systems.

Once technical integration is completed, users will be able to pay for services directly through the Crypto.com wallet app, making crypto payments secure, fast, and accessible across all participating government entities.

This collaboration reinforces Dubai’s leadership in digital finance and cements its role as a trailblazer in crypto adoption at a government level.
