MetaMask Extension Now Supports Solana

MetaMask, the world’s leading crypto wallet, has finally included Solana as part of its browser extension, bringing an end to years of Ethereum-only support. This adds the storage, sending, and managing of SOL and Solana-based tokens within the MetaMask UI.

MetaMask announced on May 27 that support for Solana is live on its web extension. The app on mobile devices isn’t yet there, but integration is close “in a matter of weeks,” the company confirmed.

A Strong Step Towards Multi-Chain Useability

This move is part of MetaMask’s broader push to simplify user experience by supporting non-EVM networks. Until now, users had to manage separate wallets to access different ecosystems, such as Ethereum and Solana. MetaMask’s latest update brings these ecosystems under a single interface.

“Solana is just the start,” MetaMask stated. “We’ll be adding more non-EVM networks over the coming months to make wallet juggling a thing of the past.”

Phantom vs. MetaMask: A Wallet Battle Royale?

Despite the new update, however, MetaMask faces stiff competition from Phantom, the top Solana-native wallet. Phantom already supports several networks, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, and Polygon, which makes it more versatile.

MetaMask is counting on its strong security history, however. The platform highlights real-time notifications, malicious dApp detection, and transaction simulation as key features. It also states that it has never had a protocol-level hack.

However, phishing and social engineering remain live threats. In 2023, MetaMask users were victimized after a Namecheap hack that led to phishing emails.

What’s Next?

As Solana goes live on the MetaMask extension and mobile support looms, the wallet is racing aggressively toward true multi-chain dominance. As the crypto ecosystem diversifies beyond Ethereum, MetaMask’s charge is a significant step toward even more inclusion across networks.
