Tigran Gambaryan, former Binance compliance executive, has officially resigned from the crypto exchange following his October 2024 return to the United States. The news, broken in a June 6 X post, comes after being held in detention by Nigerian authorities for eight months on charges later withdrawn.

A Return Home and a New Chapter

Gambaryan, a former U.S. federal agent, had been arrested with Binance colleague Nadeem Anjarwalla in February 2024 when he had traveled to Nigeria to hold talks with regulators. Anjarwalla had escaped to Kenya, but Gambaryan remained in Nigeria, where he was reported to have endured poor treatment and poorly addressed health issues.

His release in October 2024 followed increasing global pressure from Binance, human rights groups, and U.S. politicians.

Back in the United States now, Gambaryan has now formally cut all ties with Binance but suggested he remains committed to continuing his mission for the crypto community, specifically where its advantage overlaps with law enforcement and regulation.

A Continued Mission in Crypto

“Digital assets are coming together with traditional finance and national security more and more,” Gambaryan wrote. “There is a need for experienced, trusted operators. that is where I am going to keep making a difference.”

He hinted at a potential return to public service or a move into a mission-based company in the private sector.

Legal Issues of Binance in Nigeria

The resignation is just the latest in Binance’s long saga of legal troubles. Gambaryan and Anjarwalla were both accused of money laundering and tax evasion by Nigerian authorities as part of overall charges against the company. Binance eventually suspended all Naira-based transactions in March 2024.

By June 2024, tax charges were dropped, and the remaining money laundering charges against Gambaryan were waived by October — positioning him for release.
