Repayment Deadline Moved to October 2025
The rehabilitation trustee managing the legacy Mt Gox exchange has officially announced a new deadline of October 31, 2025 for the completion of repayments to rehabilitation creditors. This marks another delay in a process that began following the 2014 exchange collapse and subsequent Bitcoin heist.
Why the Extension?
According to the notice, the delay is attributed to a significant number of creditors who have yet to complete required procedures, including choice of repayment method and registration of payee information. The trustee emphasized that repayments will proceed “to the extent reasonably practicable” only after all processes are fully completed.
Impact on Affected Creditors
Thousands of former Mt Gox users who staked claims in the rehabilitation proceedings now face increased uncertainty. Many creditors have expressed frustration over repeated extensions and what they view as limited transparency around the process.
What Happens Next?
Creditors are urged to complete outstanding submissions and registrations without delay. The trustee has made it clear that failure to meet the new deadline may result in forfeiture of repayment eligibility. As the process approaches its new target date, affected parties will be watching closely for further updates or additional extensions.
