AgriFORCE Opens Alberta Bitcoin Mining Center Fueled by Stranded Gas

Canadian agri-tech firm AgriFORCE Growing Systems Ltd. has launched a new Bitcoin mining center in Berwyn, Alberta, powered entirely by stranded natural gas. The project, announced on June 17, is the first such site under AgriFORCE’s Power & Compute Initiative.

Sustainable Crypto Mining Using Stranded Gas

Along with BlueFlare Energy, AgriFORCE deployed 120 Bitmain S21 ASIC miners on the premises, which consume 425 kilowatts (kW) of power and offer over 32 petahashes per second (PH/s) of computing power.

The plant has a custom-designed pod with customized airflow and temperature controls, along with BlueFlare’s own advanced proprietary telemetry and Carbon Cube emissions sensor monitoring system to enable instantaneous environmental monitoring.

Stranded gas—non-economic to transport natural gas—powers the facility. This energy source reduces environmental impact by turning waste into utility, helping decarbonize crypto mining.

Expansion and Treasury Strategy

The Berwyn project Phase 2 is underway and will boost total power capacity to over 625 kW. AgriFORCE has mined around seven Bitcoin at its Alberta and Ohio facilities thus far, valued at $735,000.

The company is planning to keep up to 50% of the BTC mined in the treasury and use the other half to invest in future infrastructure. In addition, AgriFORCE is planning to invest up to 50% of the raised capital in direct purchase of Bitcoins.

More Sites in Alberta and Beyond Bitcoin

A contract with BlueFlare Energy will see two more facilities rolled out in Oyen and Hinton, Alberta. Each facility will replicate the Berwyn model, with 640 kW-rated, modular, off-grid units. Besides mining, workloads like AI inference and industrial IoT processing will be taken care of at the sites.

AgriFORCE is planning for over 0.5 exahashes per second (EH/s) by Q4 2025 and 1 EH/s by early 2026.

Global Push for Cleaner Mining

As mining of Bitcoin turns more energy-intensive, the industry is turning green. Renewables being mined are growing annually by 5.8%, pointing to the turn away from diesel and coal-based fuels.

Some of the recent trends are the U.S. FLARE Act, which would provide tax incentives to flared gas miners, and Pakistan’s decision to divert 2,000 megawatts of surplus electricity to Bitcoin and AI data centers.

AgriFORCE’s off-grid, stranded gas-powered facilities indicate a trend on the rise: deploying sustainable energy into blockchain infrastructure at scale.
