Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong Trolls Polymarket During Live Earnings Call
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong turned the Q3 earnings call into a viral moment after he unexpectedly read aloud all the betting terms from a Polymarket prediction market that tracked what words he would mention during the call.
The so-called “mention market” featured bets on whether Armstrong would say words like Bitcoin, Ethereum, blockchain, staking, and Web3.
By the end of the broadcast, Armstrong casually listed them all, effectively helping Polymarket users win their bets — an act that many online called “the most crypto CEO move ever.”
$80,000 on Kalshi and $4,000 on Polymarket
According to data from Coinglass, around $80,000 was wagered on Kalshi, and $4,000 on Polymarket. Armstrong later revealed that the stunt was spontaneous, after “someone from the team dropped the link in our group chat.”
A Viral Moment for Crypto Culture
The event quickly spread across Crypto Twitter, with traders, meme accounts, and influencers celebrating Armstrong’s playful nod to the decentralized betting world.
For Coinbase, it was an unusual but fitting crossover moment — blending corporate finance with crypto internet culture in a way few traditional CEOs would dare to attempt.
