CD Projekt Red—maker of the Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher video games—is developing a new live-action project with Hollywood production company Anonymous Content based on Cyberpunk 2077’s world, the game studio announced Thursday.

While few details about the project have been revealed, Anonymous Content Studios’s Head of Television, Garret Kemble, is overseeing the live-action adaptation alongside Anonymous’ Director of Development Ryan Schwartz and Chief Creative Officer David Levine.

Kemble’s involvement in the project as a television development executive suggests that a Cyberpunk 2077 television series is in the works. But it’s also possible that a film project could be in development, as CD Projekt Red only refers to the adaptation as a “project” in its announcement.

The Cyberpunk 2077 Hollywood adaptation is currently looking for a screenwriter to help bring a new story set in its futuristic, sci-fi world to life. Kemble, Levine, Schwartz, and Bard Dorros are producing the project with management and production firm Gotham Group’s Charlie Scully. Anonymous is producing the project under its AC Studios banner.

While Cyberpunk 2077 had an initially rough launch back in December 2020, the game—which stars “The Matrix” and “John Wick” actor Keanu Reeves—has since seen success.

Since its release, Cyberpunk 2077 has received “Very Positive” reviews on PC game platform Steam and sold over 25 million copies, the game studio announced Thursday. CD Projekt Red also released a substantial “Phantom Liberty” expansion for the game in September, which prominently features actor Idris Elba. The expansion has already sold 3 million units in less than two weeks.

Anonymous Content previously helped bring “Mr. Robot” and “True Detective” to life, and Levine oversaw the production of television shows like “Westworld,” “True Blood,” and early “Game of Thrones” seasons.

This isn’t CD Projekt Red’s first step into Hollywood adaptations for its games, however. It’s already worked with Netflix to adapt The Witcher in a TV series, which stars “Man of Steel” actor Henry Cavill and has spanned three seasons so far.

The Polish game studio has also worked with Netflix to turn Cyberpunk 2077 into an anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which was released in 2022. The anime, which stars voice actors like “Breaking Bad” villain Giancarlo Esposito, won a Crunchyroll Anime award and maintains a 100% average score on film and TV reviews site Rotten Tomatoes.

CD Projekt Red did not immediately respond to Decrypt’s request for comment to confirm whether a television series or feature film is in development for Cyberpunk 2077.
