Latin America’s leading crypto exchange partners with Ripple for mass tokenization project.

Mercado Bitcoin, a leading crypto exchange in Latin America, is now announcing tokenizing $200 million of real-world assets (RWAs) on the XRP Ledger (XRPL).

The announcement is the latest in a series of significant developments toward the convergence of traditional finance and blockchain technology, cementing XRPL’s role in enabling tokenized financial products.

Fixed-Income and Equity Securities Go Onchain

The tokenized RWAs will include fixed-income and equity financial products, Ripple indicated. Such financial products, previously exclusive to centralized financial markets, will now be expressed onchain, with more access, faster settlements, and potential integration with decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.

A joint report by Boston Consulting Group and Ripple projected the tokenized RWA market to capitalization of $19 trillion as early as 2033—emphasizing the vast possibility of onchain representation of assets.

Industry-Wide Initiative Towards Clarity In The Face Of Growing Demand

Mercado Bitcoin’s action aligns with a industry-wide push across the crypto space and mainstream asset managers alike for transparent regulation of tokenized financial products in the US.

In the meantime, on the same day, DeFi platform Ondo Finance acquired tokenized asset firm Oasis Pro, a pioneer of U.S.-regulated digital settlement of securities. Earlier in the week, blockchain firm Centrifuge revealed intentions to tokenize the S&P 500 index.

This growth momentum comes as leading finance tycoons, such as BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, urged U.S. regulators to approve broader use of stock and bond tokenization.

Legal Grey Zones Persist

Despite growing interest and investment, tokenized RWAs remain in a legal limbo. John Murillo, B2BROKER chief business officer, warned that tokenized equities now possess no ordinary shareholder rights like access to company assets, voting, and internal financial details.

Murillo advised investors to check every token’s makeup to learn its linked rights, dividends, and smart contract risks before investing.

Tokenized Future on the Horizon

Mercado Bitcoin’s $200 million tokenization initiative represents a watershed moment for RWA uptake on blockchain. With institutional demand rising and platforms introducing tokenized products, participants in the sector believe regulatory regimes will eventually catch up with innovation.
