Bitcoin Scammer on the Loose After Skipping Court

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of 30-year-old self-styled “Bitcoin billionaire” Kevin Segal after he failed to appear in court despite having posted a $50,000 bond. Segal, who is accused of scamming numerous businesses and individuals across Wyoming, could face up to 141 years in prison if convicted.

Scams Across Wyoming’s High-End Scene

Authorities allege Segal portrayed himself as a big-spending investor looking to buy high-end properties in Jackson Hole while accumulating unpaid bills at high-end resorts and businesses. Some details of unpaid bills include:

  • Amangani Resort – $2,725.76
  • Spring Creek Ranch – Over $22,000 (fraudulent cards were used)
  • Mangy Moose Saloon – $3,055.28 tab

Segal is also charged with convincing a man to buy a DJI drone in Colorado with the assurance of repayment via a $3,281.46 check that was returned.

Bond Poster Left Bankrupt

Jason Irvine, the individual who posted Segal’s $50,000 bond, is left in financial difficulties. He claims Segal had promised to pay him $500,000 in Bitcoin as a token of gratitude for the favor. Instead, Segal disappeared after being released on February 14.

Irvine, who maxed out three credit cards, says he is now facing bankruptcy. “You screwed me over, and now I really don’t believe anything you say anymore,” he texted Segal in frustration.

Bogus Wire Transfers and More Lies

Segal’s scams extended to businesses. He is charged with:

Ledger
  • Hiring a driver to take a Dodge to Los Angeles with the promise of airline tickets home. The driver was stranded, and he had to purchase his own ticket.
  • Sending a fake wire transfer screenshot to reimburse the driver’s $3,101 spend.

A History of Fraud

This is not Segal’s initial encounter with the law. Court records reveal that he has a record of falsely claiming to own $340 million in stocks to rent a Los Angeles building.

If captured, Segal’s bail has been raised to $750,000 cash-only—a steep price for his liberty.
