Popular Crypto Influencer Jaypeg Accused of Promotional Scam

Influencer Jaypeg has grave allegations placed upon him of involvement in a promotional scam linked to the “Uptober” memecoin. The team behind Uptober maintains that the influencer was supposed to promote the token in exchange for 2% of the total supply of the token, which has been estimated at approximately 2,200 dollars. However, upon receiving the tokens, Jaypeg is accused of selling them and subsequently denied that he had ever been paid in any form whatsoever.

The allegations broke out in the Telegram group Uptober, where the agreement is claimed to have been agreed upon. Jaypeg is reported to have agreed to the promotional tie-up inside the group and received the tokens. He is said to have cleansed his receiving address that was posted on the chat just some days after the funds had arrived, claiming it was not his address, but a wallet.

Onchain Evidence Suggests Otherwise

To corroborate their findings, the Uptober team called on the services of onchain investigator ZackXBT, who produced a number of evidences that disproved Jaypeg’s denial. According to an investigation by ZackXBT, the receiving wallet address starting with “8jpz1p” belongs to Jaypeg. The same wallet had earlier claimed airdrops from Solana Saga back on January 10, 2024, just hours after Jaypeg posted an unboxing video of the Solana Saga smartphone and mentioned the airdrops.

Everything points to a very valid question being raised as to whether Jaypeg’s claims of the wallet address posted in the group being random can hold any water. As of the time of this report, the influencer, despite mounting evidence against his claims, has continued to deny the wrongdoing, deleting messages that showed wallet addresses from the group.

Public Apology and Charitable Donation

Jaypeg has since responded to the escalating scandal, insinuating that the Uptober team is trying to blackmail him. In an attempt to redeem himself, he issued a public apology and claimed that he donated $2,000 to The Turtle Foundation, to conserve species. However, many have questioned this act of his, as to whether it was done out of the goodness of his heart or merely to divert others’ attention from the issue at hand.

Market Hype and Memecoins

These memecoins have widely trended in the crypto space to help spur speculation into high gear in cryptocurrency markets. According to crypto analysts, this current boom in memecoins may continue, with interest in these assets set to approach their peak come 2025, amidst the hype and rapid creation of tokens across many networks like Solana.
