Semler Scientific Posts 37.3% Bitcoin Yield

Tech solutions provider Semler Scientific earned a remarkable 37.3% Bitcoin yield since starting its BTC treasury strategy earlier this year. The yield demonstrates that the company’s tactics-which have included strategic Bitcoin acquisitions financed by the issuance of additional shares of its common stock-are working. The performance indicator was created to “supplement an investor’s understanding” of the company’s financial decisions and shows quite remarkable returns for its stakeholders.

The Bitcoin yield is a relatively new metric that measures the success of a firm’s strategy for holding BTC. Semler Scientific joins an increasing number of companies, including MicroStrategy, which adopted this KPI to monitor performance related to cryptocurrency.

Semler’s Expanding Bitcoin Holdings

On November 18, Semler Scientific announced the purchase of an additional 215 BTC within the dates of November 6-15 for a total sum of $17.7 million in cash, with an average price of $82,502 for each Bitcoin, with consideration for related expenses.

Following this latest purchase, the company now owns 1,273 BTC. At the current Bitcoin market price of $89,600, these acquired coins were valued at around $114 million, against the average cost per coin that stands at $69,682 each.

The Chairman, Eric Semler, said he was pleased with such results, adding, “We have generated a BTC return of 37.3% since the inception of our Bitcoin treasury strategy in Q2 2024.” He went further to assure that such results are paramount in driving long-term stakeholder value.

Commitment to Investment in Bitcoin

CEO Doug Murphy-Chutorian then went ahead to reassurance that the firm remained committed to continued accrual of its inventory of Bitcoins. “Semler Scientific is laser-focused on acquiring and holding Bitcoin,” he added, stating that the firm continues to actively pursue new financing opportunities to continue its growth in cryptocurrency investments.

Thus, Semler Scientific’s proactive approach takes a cue from the broader objective of leveraging appreciation of Bitcoin as core to its financial strategy.

Metaplanet Joins the Bitcoin Trend

Metaplanet, a Tokyo-based Japanese investment firm, also intends to increase its Bitcoin reserve. On November 18, the company said it issued one-year bonds with a total value of 1.75 billion yen ($11.3 million) to finance the purchase of Bitcoin. At an annual interest of 0.36%, the bond will fall due on November 17, 2025.

Announcements like the one from Metaplanet underpin a growing trend among companies announcing Bitcoin into their portfolio, following firms such as Semler Scientific and MicroStrategy.

As cryptocurrency adoption wears on, results from the likes of Semler Scientific may be encouraging more businesses to consider Bitcoin treasury strategies.
