Solana and Aptos Chosen as Wyoming’s State Stablecoin Finalists

The Wyoming Stable Token Commission shortlisted Solana and Aptos as the top contenders to support the state’s WYST stablecoin, following a competitive evaluation process beginning with 11 applicants earlier this year.

A third blockchain network, whose name was not revealed, was eliminated over compliance concerns—placing more definite focus on the two networks that are famous for speed, scalability, and regulatory awareness.

Why Aptos and Solana Were Selected

The Commission noted three factors as being of greatest consideration: throughput, finality, and vendor maturity. Aptos and Solana scored well across the board.

Aptos, originally derived from Meta’s Diem project, offers high-speed transactions via its parallel execution engine, Block-STM. The blockchain makes use of Move—a language expressly created for financial safety—and supports on-chain upgrades, a vital property for adaptability to policy changes.

Backed by Google Cloud and Microsoft, Aptos has presented a strong case for enterprise-grade reliability and compliance, which is attractive for a government-issued digital asset.

Solana, meanwhile, provides the benefit of battle-tested infrastructure. Its single global state model enables ultra-fast and inexpensive transactions. Solana has also been conducting quarterly technical meetings with the Commission since late 2024, and it already supports WYST tokens on its testnet.

With its profound liquidity and extensive use across DeFi platforms, Solana provides a scalable and stable public-sector use case solution.

What’s Next for WYST

The final decision of the Commission is expected in the coming months. Wyoming is going to launch WYST as a fully state-backed digital dollar to enable instant payments, tax payments, and treasury operations.

As the digital currency environment further evolves, Wyoming’s embrace of blockchain infrastructure points to a broader shift in how governments can release and manage sovereign-backed stablecoins. Solana and Aptos now stand at the threshold of a partnership for the ages.
