UK Court Denies Craig Wright’s Appeal in Bitcoin Creator Case

The UK Court of Appeal has dealt a crucial blow to Craig Wright’s claim of being Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. On Nov. 29, the court refused Wright’s application to appeal a High Court ruling from earlier this year, further discrediting his long-running claims.

Hodlonaut Announces Court Decision

The news was broken on X by Hodlonaut, a Bitcoin influencer who has been very critical of Wright, and referred to the denial of the appeal as “brutal”. The court denied the application made by Wright, arguing it contained “multiple falsehoods,” with some based on sham legal authorities.

Court Criticizes “AI-Generated Hallucinations”

One such falsehood on which the court considered was based included a fake legal case, Anderson v. the Queen

2013 UKPC 2. The court dismissed this as an “AI-generated hallucination,” claiming it undermined the credibility of Wright’s arguments.

“The appeals have no prospect of success whatever”, the ruling said “and there is no other reason to hear them”. The court underlined that the questions to Wright’s credibility made his claims untenable.

Craig Wright and the “Faketoshi” Saga

Craig Wright is an Australian computer scientist who has been at the center of controversy since 2016, when he started claiming to be Satoshi Nakamoto. The cryptocurrency community has largely doubted his claims, with many referring to him as “Faketoshi.

He has filed many libel suits against his critics, among them Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin and podcaster Peter McCormack. Many of these lawsuits have ended up in either dismissals or judgments against him, which has served only to reduce what little standing he enjoyed within the crypto community.

Earlier High Court Verdict

In May 2024, Judge James Mellor of the UK High Court ruled that Wright had failed to provide any credible evidence to prove he was Nakamoto. The case against him had been filed by the Crypto Open Patent Alliance (COPA), an organization which accused Wright of fabricating evidence to bolster his claim.

The Mystery Behind the Creator of Bitcoin

With Wright’s appeals exhausted, the identity of Bitcoin’s creator remains a mystery. The crypto community continues to speculate about Satoshi Nakamoto’s true identity. Recent theories, such as an HBO documentary suggesting Canadian developer Peter Todd as Nakamoto, have sparked debate but no consensus.

For now, Bitcoin’s creator remains an enigma, with Wright’s legal battles seemingly coming to an end.
