India’s response to the allegations of human trafficking by crypto scammers reveals that 14 victims were saved.

The Indian Embassy in Laos has rescued 14 Indians from cyber-scam centers situated in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone, Bokeo province, Laos. These persons were lured into captivity and forced labor under harsh conditions by deceptive job offers. Thus far, over 548 them nationals have been rescued from human trafficking scams related to cryptocurrencies.

Bogus Job Offers as a Deception

These victims were promised high paying jobs in Laos. Unscrupulous firms operating call center scams and cryptocurrency fraud offered posts such as “Digital Sales and Marketing Executives” or “Customer Support Service”. Interviews, typing tests with promises of huge salaries, accommodation at five-star hotels, return flight tickets among others characterized their recruitment process.

Literal Description of Forced Labor

Upon arrival though, everything changed. The victims had been trafficked for slavery where they suffered physical and mental abuse. Some of them were involved in hard manual labour while others were doing any such things like similar crypto or tech-related fraud acts coerced upon them.
